Pakistan's Economy, Explained
Economic news can feel abstract until it reaches your household — through the price of flour, the cost of electricity, or whether jobs are being created. This section connects the two: what the headline numbers mean, and how they show up in everyday life.
The numbers that matter
Inflation is measured by the Consumer Price Index and, weekly, by the Sensitive Price Indicator, which tracks essential items. GDP growth shows whether the economy is expanding. The fiscal deficit is the gap between what the government spends and what it collects, while the current account deficit tracks the gap between what the country pays abroad and what it earns.
